Charging at Public Charging Stations: Frequently asked questions

Here you'll find answers to frequently asked questions about charging your Porsche at public charging stations.

If the station is out of order or there’s another issue, contact the station provider directly. Their phone number can usually be found on the charging station or in the My Porsche app under Support.

If the charging session does not start, it may be due to a communication error between your vehicle and the charging station:

If you come across a charging station with outdated software, it could potentially cause you to experience difficulties. In this case before switching to a different charging station, you can activate the Compatibility Mode in the PCM and try to charge again. This mode allows you to charge at incompatible charging stations, which means the encryption between the car and the charging station will be suspended during the establishment of communication with the charging station. Please note: During this time, the Plug & Charge function is not available. On car restart or upon engaging a driving gear, the Compatibility Mode turns off automatically.

Before activating Compatibility Mode, make sure that charging cable isn’t plugged in and follow these steps:

In your PCM: Home > Charging > Settings icon Tap Compatibility Mode Start the charging process manually

Alternatively, you can turn on compatibility mode by pressing and holding the release button at the vehicle charge port for three seconds.

Failed authentication at a charging station:

Authentication at a charging station fails via My Porsche app, Charging Card and/or Plug & Charge. Customer Service will help you to activate the charging station remotely (after successful authentication) or find an alternative charging station nearby.
