Charging at Public Charging Stations: FAQ

Find answers to common questions about charging your Porsche at public stations. 

This article applies to the following models:  

Taycan 2020 - present 

Macan Electric 2024 - present 

If the station is out of order or there’s another issue, contact the station provider directly. Their phone number can usually be found on the charging station or in the My Porsche app under Support.

Charging equipment may have country-specific restrictions or approvals. Check your Owner's Manual or contact your Porsche Center to confirm your equipment’s compatibility or to learn if additional items are needed. 

 No, you should not use extension cords, cable reels, multiple sockets, or travel adapters. Instead, purchase appropriate connecting cables or plugs from a Porsche Center in the country you’re visiting. 

Taycan models:  No. The charging plug is locked once inserted and cannot be removed until the session ends. 

Macan Electric models: 

For DC charging, the plug is locked until the session ends. 
For AC charging, there’s a setting to unlock the plug once charging is complete, allowing other drivers to use the station. 

To activate automatic AC plug release: 

Go to your  Home  screen. Tap the  Charging  tile. Tap the  Gear icon. Enable the  Automatic AC plug release  slider. 

This typically happens if the charging station is offline and not transmitting data. You can either: 

End the charging session manually in the app. Ignore it; only the actual charging time recorded at the station will be invoiced.
