How does recuperation work in the Cayenne Electric?

During deceleration and braking, your Cayenne Electric recuperates energy and feeds it back into the high‑voltage battery. This process is known as recuperation.

Benefits of Recuperation:

Efficient energy recovery, as kinetic energy is converted into electrical energy and fed back into the high-voltage battery during deceleration. Less use of the mechanical brakes, as the vehicle can decelerate electrically in many everyday driving situations. Less brake dust, which can help reduce particulate emissions.

Function

In normal driving operation, around 97 percent of all braking events are purely electric, without any support from the mechanical wheel brake. If the required deceleration exceeds the maximum possible recuperation, the wheel brake is automatically activated - seamlessly and without any perceptible transition. This interaction is known as blending.

The Cayenne Electric can provide a recuperation power of up to 600 kW

The driving modes influence the characteristics of the recuperation to optimise driving behaviour. To support dynamic handling in the Sport and Sport Plus modes, the brake force distribution of the recuperation is utilised.

Settings

In the Porsche Communication Management (PCM), you can adjust the coasting recuperation:

Settings > Drive > Recuperation OFF/ON/AUTO
