Online software updates – also known as Over the Air (OTA) updates – allow your Porsche to be updated automatically, securely and quickly via the integrated data connection. This keeps software on enabled car components up to date without you needing to schedule an appointment at your Porsche Center.

These OTA updates work similarly to those on a smartphone: They are downloaded automatically in the background and are secure, convenient and user-friendly. All you need to do is consent with installation when prompted.

How long does the installation of an online software update take?

The time required to install an online software update varies depending on the update itself and your Porsche model.

Before starting the installation, the estimated update duration is displayed in your Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system and in the My Porsche app. This allows you to plan the installation at a convenient time.

Can I install an online software update while driving?

No. For safety reasons and to ensure that all car systems function correctly, online software updates cannot be installed while driving. Installation can only begin when your Porsche is parked and all required conditions are met. Why did my Porsche receive an online software update but I can’t see any changes?

Not every online software update introduces visible new features or changes.

Many updates include behind-the-scenes improvements that help enhance system stability, performance, security and overall vehicle functionality. Even if no visible changes are noticeable, your Porsche may still benefit from important technical optimizations.

Can my Porsche be charged while an online software update is being installed?

Charging is not possible during the installation of an online software update. Your Porsche temporarily coordinates all car systems to ensure a smooth and reliable installation process. As a result, some car functions may also be temporarily unavailable during the update.

Can I cancel an online software update once the installation has started?

No. Once the installation process has started, the update cannot be interrupted or cancelled.

We therefore recommend starting the installation only when you don't need to use your car for the entire duration of the update.

Will I receive an error message if the installation fails?

Yes. If an online software update can’t be completed successfully, you'll receive a push notification. Yellow or red warning indicators may be displayed in your car and will provide guidance on the next steps to take.

What impact does an online software update have on my mobile data usage?

The online software update has no impact on your personal data volume.
