Charging your electric car is an essential part of the driving experience — and with today’s smart solutions, it’s faster and more convenient than ever. Whether you're charging at home or on the go, there are plenty of ways to keep your car ready for the road with minimal effort and maximum efficiency.
From upgrading your home setup to choosing the right public chargers as well as optimising the settings on your Porsche, this article will provide practical tips helping you spend less time charging and more time enjoying the drive.

There are three primary methods to help speed up the charging process for your Porsche:
Fast charging works best when started at a low SoC (State of Charge) and pre-conditioned battery. Best performances will be reached when starting at 10%-20% and at a battery temperature of 25-35°C. This should help to achieve the highest charging power.
If possible, you should consider only charging up to 80% SoC, as the charging speed is limited beyond this. In order to protect the battery, the charging rate gets slower as the battery approaches full capacity. Your Navigation map in your Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system, as well as in the My Porsche app, provides all the information you need about charging standards and power output.
For the fastest charging times, consider using a High Power Charger (Combined Charging System [CCS]) with a minimum 320 kW power and more than 850 V.
The following factors help you to speed up the charging process of your Porsche at home:
Charge after a journey or in warm surroundings to shorten the charging time. The optimal battery temperature is between 25-35°C.
If you charge your electric car using a standard household outlet – rather than a dedicated home charger – then the charging power is usually limited to 2.3 kW. If so, the charging time for a full charge can surpass 40 hours. However, due to the potential risk of overheating, charging your electric car via a household outlet is strongly discouraged.
A dedicated home charger allows you to charge your electric car significantly faster. Many UK homes have a power supply of up to 7.2 kW, allowing you to charge your car conveniently overnight. If you have a 22 kW supply, you can charge in just a few hours, depending on your chosen home charger and your vehicle’s specification.
The cable you use must be rated for the maximum charging power. An 11 kW cable limits charging to 11 kW, even if the wallbox and car on-board charger support 22 kW.
For higher charging speeds (e.g., 22 kW), a thicker, high-quality cable is necessary. The Porsche Wallbox enables fast charging with 22 kW. Find more information about our charging accessories here.
The on-board charger in your car determines the maximum power for AC charging. If the on-board charger in your car can charge with 11 kW, even a 22 kW wallbox will not charge the car faster.
We offer a range of home charging equipment to cover your needs, including the Porsche Wallbox. In our online shop, you can find more information and also directly place an order.

The following factors help you to speed up the charging process of your Porsche when you’re charging in public:
Look for charging stations with an output of 300 kW or more. Examples include the following locations:
You can find the maximum output of charging power in your PCM or the My Porsche app.
To activate automatic preconditioning of your battery, use the Porsche Charging Planner in the navigation system of your car.
To avoid waiting times at public stations, the Porsche Charging Planner optimises your route and stops the charging process automatically. Only those charging stations that show the lowest amount of users and, consequently, the shortest waiting time are calculated into your route.
The Plug & Charge service helps you to save time when charging your Porsche. The charging process starts automatically when the charging cable is plugged in, and payment is handled automatically in the background via the My Porsche app.
Read how to activate Plug & Charge for either your Porsche Macan or Porsche Taycan. Plug & Charge is available at all Porsche Charging Lounges, Porsche Centre turbo chargers, and IONITY.
Switch off heating and air conditioning during charging to help speed up charging times.
There are several factors that can influence why your Porsche may not reach its maximum charging power at a high-power charging station:
