How do I set up and use the Porsche Digital Key?

The Porsche Digital Key lets you lock, unlock and start your vehicle using your smart phone. It also allows you to securely share access with others, making it easy and flexible for multiple drivers to use your Porsche.

How to set up the Porsche Digital Key 

To use the Porsche Digital Key, please ensure that the following prerequisites are met before you start the pairing process. 

Your car has the Porsche Digital Key option. An active Porsche ID. Active Porsche Connect services. Your car has an active data connection. Connect services are turned on (privacy mode off). You have a compatible iPhone® , Apple Watch® or Android™ device. See 'Compatible mobile' devices below. Your iPhone or compatible mobile device has internet connection. Bluetooth is enabled. Your car is unlocked with the physical key, and that key is inside the vehicle. You, as the vehicle owner, are logged into your car with your Porsche ID. As the car owner, you must first set up your phone as the digital main key. This allows you to create, manage, and share additional digital keys. You can set up the main key via either the My Porsche app or the welcome email.

Unlock your car with the physical key and turn the ignition on. Open the My Porsche app Tap on the Porsche Digital Key icon on the home screen. Select Set up now. Tap Start pairing and follow the instructions in your phone’s Wallet app. Your car will detect that the process has started and will automatically open the pairing screen. When pairing is complete, you will see a confirmation message in both the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system and on your phone.

Unlock your car with the physical key and turn the ignition on. Open the welcome email and tap the link at the bottom. (You will receive this email after you activate the Porsche Connect services and logged into your car with your Porsche ID.) Your phone will open the Wallet app. Follow the on-screen instructions. Your car will detect that the process has started and will automatically open the pairing screen. When pairing is complete, you will see a confirmation message in the PCM system and on your phone.

How do I manage my keys?

To switch your main key:

Unlock your car with the physical key and turn the ignition on. On the home screen of your PCM, tap Porsche Digital Key > Manage > Manage main key > Change main key. You will receive an email. Tap the link and follow the instructions. Your car will automatically start the pairing process. When pairing is finished, you will see a confirmation message in both the PCM system and on your phone.

When you sell your car, please unpair your Porsche Digital Key. This will also remove all shared keys. You can do so through the following methods:

Porsche Communication Management (PCM)

Via PCM

Unlock your car with the physical key and turn on the ignition. In PCM, select Porsche Digital Key > Manage > Manage main key. Tap Unpair main key and confirm. Unpairing completed in both PCM and on your device.

My Porsche app

Make sure both your phone and your car are online.

If you unpair the key remotely, make sure no one is inside the car, as they could be locked in.

Open the My Porsche app. Tap the Porsche Digital Key icon. Tap Settings in the top-right corner. Select the Digital Key tab. Tap Unpair main key. Tap Unpair and confirm when prompted. Once completed, you will see a success message.

How do I delete a shared Porsche Digital Key?  

You can remove a shared key through your car’s PCM or through the Wallet app of your mobile phone.

Porsche Communication Management (PCM)

On the home screen, tap Porsche Digital Key. Select Manage. Tap Digital Keys Assigned. Find the key you want to remove, swipe it from right to left, and confirm the pop-up.

How do I use the Porsche Digital Key to unlock and start my car? 

Your Porsche Digital Key works using Bluetooth Low Energy with Ultra-Wideband (UWB) or Near Field Communication (NFC) Technology, depending on your device.

You can also lock or unlock your car using the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) buttons in the Wallet app or the My Porsche app.

With UWB and Bluetooth activated, you can lock, unlock and start your car without taking your mobile device out of your pocket:

Unlocking

Touch the proximity sensor on the door handle, or If you’ve enabled Comfort Access and Automatically unlock when approaching (through Vehicle settings > Vehicle locking system of your PCM), simply walk up to your car— it will unlock automatically.

Locking

Touch the proximity sensor on the door handle, or If you’ve enabled Comfort Access and When leaving, lock automatically (through Vehicle settings > Vehicle locking system of your PCM), walk away and the car will lock as you leave the area.

Starting

Make sure your phone is inside the car. Press the start button.

If you’re within Bluetooth range (about 260 feet), you can also open or close the doors using the My Porsche app:

Open the app. Tap the Porsche Digital Key icon. Use the available lock/unlock controls.

Locking & unlocking

On iPhones:

Open your Porsche Digital Key in your Wallet app. Authenticate. Hold your phone near the driver’s door handle. The NFC chip is located in the upper half of the back of the phone.

On Android phones:

Make sure NFC is turned on. Hold your phone near the driver’s door handle. Most Android devices have the NFC chip centered on the back.

Starting

Place your phone into the smartphone tray inside the car. For iPhone users, the device must be opened and authenticated in the Wallet app. Press the start button.

Locking & unlocking 

If you're within Bluetooth range, you can lock and unlock your car using:

The Wallet app, or The My Porsche app.

What is the Porsche Digital Key Card? 

The Porsche Digital Key Card is a physical backup key. It’s mainly intended for temporary situations — such as a breakdown, valet parking or workshop visits.

You will receive the card when your car is delivered. In case it’s lost, please contact your local Porsche Center. It’s recommended that you keep the deactivated card in your car for emergencies. An activated card must not be stored in the car.

 

Porsche Communication Management

Unlock your car with the Porsche Digital Key and turn it on.

If you’re using the Digital Key via Bluetooth, make sure your phone is within range.

If you’re using NFC and your phone is still in the smartphone tray, remove it first.

Place the card into the smartphone tray. The car will automatically begin activation. When finished, you will see a success message.

My Porsche app

Open the My Porsche app. Tap on the key icon on the home screen. Tap the settings icon in the top-right corner. Select Digital Key Card. Follow the on-screen instructions.

To open the car

Hold the card against the proximity sensor on the driver’s door handle.

To start the car

Place the card in the smartphone tray and press the start button.

You can check whether the card is currently activated or deactivated in the PCM or My Porsche app: Porsche Digital Key icon > Settings icon > Digital Key Card

The Porsche Digital Key Card will automatically deactivate when you start your car with either your digital key or physical key.

You can also deactivate it via the My Porsche app:

Open the My Porsche app. Tap on the key icon on the home screen. Tap the settings icon in the top right corner. Select Digital Key Card. Press Deactivate now and follow the instructions.

The following steps will help to protect your car:

Unpair your main key in the PCM or in the My Porsche app. In this case, all shared keys will be deleted. Pair your main key with a new mobile device the car‘s PCM. Check if your phone’s account lets you pause the Porsche Digital Key, lock, or erase the device to prevent misuse.

Frequently Asked Questions

The following measures will protect you from unauthorised access: 

You can unpair your main key in the PCM or in the My Porsche app. In this case, all your shared keys will be deleted.  You can unpair your main key and pair it with another mobile device via your car‘s PCM. The account for your mobile device may provide the option to pause the Porsche Digital Key or remotely lock or erase the device to prevent misuse of the Porsche Digital Key. 

Yes, you can still unlock and start your car in this instance. Some supported phones — such as iPhones or Androids — have a power reserve mode. This allows your phone to communicate with the car via NFC, and on some UWB-enabled models, for a short time after the battery runs out.

An internet connection is only needed for activation, management, and sharing of the Porsche Digital Key. Once the key is installed on your phone, you can lock, unlock, and start your car without the internet.

Currently, you cannot set a time limit for a shared Porsche Digital Key. To end access, you must manually revoke the key.

You can do this in the PCM of your car. On the home screen select Porsche Digital Key > Manage>move the toggle button for ‘Porsche Digital Key’ to the left>Confirm. All issued keys remain valid but cannot be used while deactivated. To reactivate, move the toggle back to the right.

The Porsche Digital Key is stored securely on the secure element of your mobile device. Additionally, both NFC and UWB technology are used to verify the proximity of the sender and receiver in a tamper-proof manner.

Separate digital keys for each car can be created and are managed in the Wallet app of your mobile device.

Yes. Even if your car is equipped with the Porsche Digital Key, you will still receive a physical key. It offers you the full range of functions and serves as a practical spare key when using the Porsche Digital Key as your main key.

Before selling your car, unpair your mobile device to remove all digital keys:

Delete your Porsche from your PorscheID. This will automatically unpair the key and delete all shared keys. You can also unpair the key via the PCM or the MyPorsche app.

The new owner will need to set up the Porsche Digital Key on their own device, following the setup instructions above.

Notes:

Google and Android are trademarks of Google LLC. The Porsche Digital Key is only available for select cars in select markets and requires a compatible device with internet access. Some features, like car controls, require Android 12+ and for the device to be within range of the car.
