How does recuperation work in the Taycan?

Your Taycan recovers energy when braking and feeds it into the high-voltage battery, where it is converted into forward motion. This process is known as recuperation and increases efficiency in everyday driving and on long journeys.

Benefits of Recuperation

Efficient energy recovery Less use of the mechanical brakes Less brake dust contributes to the reduction of particulate emissions

Function

When braking, the electric drive works as a generator and recuperates electrical energy. In many everyday situations, the Taycan brakes noticeably without hydraulic brakes. Only when deceleration increases does the system add the mechanical brake - seamlessly and without a noticeable transition. This interaction is known as blending.

The recuperation strategy adapts to the driving situation, battery temperature and state of charge.

Drive Modes

The recuperation levels automatically adapt to the selected driving mode:

Normal or Range: efficient and balanced. Good energy recovery with comfortable deceleration. Sport and Sport Plus (depending on model and equipment, e.g. with Sport Chrono Package): tuned for more direct response behaviour and dynamic performance. Recuperation is stronger in these modes, so that more energy is recovered during heavy deceleration.

Tip: Check your state of charge (SoC) on your next downhill ride - thanks to efficient recuperation, you may arrive in the valley with more energy than you used for the uphill ride.
