How do I optimise charging capacity in the Taycan when fast charging?

The Taycan offers robust charging performance for everyday use and long journeys. The 800-volt system and optimised thermal management ensure that the charging power remains high for large parts of the charging process.

Charging Capacity

EV charging comparison: Porsche electric car charging at home AC 11 kW, public DC 400V 135 kW, and ultra-fast DC 800V 270 kW charging stations. Electric vehicle fast charging efficiency for urban and highway use.

The Taycan achieves up to 11 kW at AC charging points as standard. This means it charges from a state of charge (SoC) of 0% to 100% in around 9 hours.

Your Taycan can achieve the following charging times and power levels at public fast-charging stations:

800-V-infrastructure: up to 320 kW - 10% to 80% SoC in approx. 18 minutes 400-V-Infrastructure: up to 150 kW - 10% to 80% SoC in approx. 33 minutes

Prerequisites for Fast Charging

The fast-charging performance depends on several factors, such as the power of the fast-charging station, the battery's state of charge, and the battery temperature.

As a general rule: the higher the SoC, the lower the charging power. The Taycan charges particularly efficiently in the range up to around 80% SoC.

Above 80% SoC, the charging power decreases significantly. This is due to the fact that a vehicle battery consists of many interconnected battery cells that absorb the energy supplied. The charging process can be compared to parking: If there are plenty of free spaces, parking is easy. However, if 80% of the spaces are occupied, it takes longer to find free space.

Preconditioning with the Charging Planner

The Charging Planner ensures optimum charging conditions by preconditioning the high-voltage battery. It plans charging stops, takes charging power into account and thus reduces journey time. The Charging Planner can be conveniently used via both the PCM and the My Porsche App.

Preconditioning brings the battery into an optimum temperature range for high charging power at DC and HPC charging points.

The heat pump ensures precise regulation of the battery temperature. This supports high charging performance and contributes to the longevity of the battery, even at extreme temperatures.

Important: Active route guidance via the navigation system of your Taycan is a prerequisite for using the Charging Planner.

Navigation > Option > Charging Planning

Don't worry, fast charging is also possible without preconditioning. However, the achievable charging power may be lower depending on the battery temperature, SoC, environment and charging station power.

Tips for maximum charging performance

Use the Charging Planner with active route guidance.Plan the fast charging stop so that you arrive with a low SoC. Favour 800-volt stations with high available power. Check the specified kW of the charging station. On long journeys, only charge up to the SoC required for the next stage, usually up to around 80 per cent.
