How do I set up and manage Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for my Porsche ID?

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) enhances the security of your Porsche ID by adding an additional verification step when needed. This extra layer of protection is used for accessing sensitive areas, deleting authentication methods or generating a new Recovery Code. By requiring multiple factors to verify your identity, MFA helps protect your account from unauthorised access – even if your password is compromised.

What MFA methods are supported by Porsche ID?

Currently, Porsche ID supports two MFA methods:

TOTP (Time-Based One-Time Password)

TOTP is a secure authentication method that works with authenticator apps such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and Authy. When enabled, the app generates a unique six-digit code that refreshes every 30 seconds. During login, simply enter the latest code from your app to verify your identity.

Recovery Code

The Recovery Code is automatically generated when you enrol in MFA and serves as a back-up authentication method. If you ever lose access to your other authentication methods, you can use this code to log in. Since it ensures you can always access your account, the Recovery Code cannot be deleted.

You can enable MFA either in the My Porsche app or web version:

How to manage your Recovery Code

The Recovery Code cannot be deleted as it ensures you can always access your account. It should be stored securely in a safe location, such as a password manager. Each Recovery Code is valid for one-time use only. If you use your Recovery Code, a new one will be generated automatically – be sure to save it again. If you have other MFA methods available and have lost access to your Recovery Code, you can manually generate a new Recovery Code on the Login & Security page.
