Spot On is a video series that explains different features of your Porsche. In this episode, you can discover how to use Porsche Charging Profiles and Timers to charge whenever and however you like.
Porsche Charging Profiles give you customized and efficient AC charging, allowing you to potentially save money and extend battery life. For example, you can create a profile that plans charging during the times when electricity rates are lower, such as during the night.
Once plugged in with an active charging profile, your Taycan will charge to the minimum level that you set to make sure you have the range you need. Afterwards, your preferred charging settings will optimize the rest of the charging session.
You can set up general or location-based profiles in your Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system or My Porsche app (Apple App Store/Google Play Store). A location-based profile is useful if you regularly charge at different locations. Once set up, your Taycan will automatically apply the correct profile based on the GPS coordinates.
Please note:
By default, the Taycan’s minimum charging profile is set at 25 percent. To set a target state of charge, you need to use the timer function.
Timers ensure that your desired charge level is reached before your planned departure time. They also allow you to precondition your car cabin before you leave. If there is a timer set and an active profile, the car will always prioritize the timer over the profile settings.
Profile and timer functions are only available when charging with alternating current (AC).
You can set departure timers for desired charge levels and/or car pre-climate for specific times.
Once activated, the car will ensure the desired state of charge is reached by the departure time, and the charging process will stop (unless a higher minimum state of charge is specified in the active profile).
If a timer is active alongside a profile with a minimum charge requirement, the car will charge up to the minimum state of charge (from the profile) as quickly as possible. After reaching the minimum charge, the remaining charge time will be determined based on the preferred charging times (that you have defined in your profile) to charge and your departure time.
At some public charging stations, the charging process cannot be started if a timer or profile has been programmed.
In this case, you can activate the direct charging function via the PCM central display or the center console control panel. The high-voltage battery then charges regardless of the timer or profile function up to a maximum charge level of 100 percent.
