How to use Apple CarPlay® in your Porsche

Apple CarPlay® integrates specific iPhone functions and apps directly into the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system. 

This article applies to the following models

911 from model years 2019 – present

Taycan from model years 2021 - present

Panamera from model years 2020 - present

Macan from model years 2019 - present

Cayenne from model years 2019 - present

What Do I Need to Use Apple CarPlay? 

To use Apple CarPlay, you need: 

An iPhone® 7 or later with the latest iOS software Bluetooth® , Wi-Fi, Siri® , and Apple CarPlay® enabled in your iPhone settings If connecting with a cable, we recommend using an undamaged original Apple® cable without a USB adapter for optimal performance 

How Can I Set Up Apple CarPlay?

Depending on your country and vehicle, you can use Apple CarPlay either via a USB cable or a wireless connection.

Connect your iPhone to the USB port using an undamaged original equipment manufacturer charging cable. Confirm on the PCM screen that you want to start using Apple CarPlay. Apple CarPlay will automatically start, and available apps will be displayed on the PCM. 

 You can check your iPhone settings to confirm that Apple CarPlay is active:  Settings > General > CarPlay

A wireless Apple CarPlay connection is available for the following models with the latest software version:

To connect wirelessly to Apple CarPlay, you can choose from two options: 

Option 1 – Via Your PCM 

Tap DevicesTap Connect New DevicesOn your iPhone, open  Settings > scroll to  General > open CarPlayOn the PCM screen, select  Connect Apple CarPlaySelect your vehicle on your iPhone. Confirm pairing by clicking  PairIf desired, allow your contacts and favorites to sync. In the infotainment system, click  AcceptConfirm the terms of use by tapping  YesApple CarPlay will open automatically. 

Option 2 – Via Voice Control  

On your iPhone, open  Settings > General > CarPlayPress and hold the voice control button until your iPhone name appears in the PCM, then tap the name. Confirm pairing by clicking  PairIf desired, allow your contacts and favorites to sync. Confirm the terms of use by tapping YesApple CarPlay will open automatically.

This function is available in models from the 2023 model year with the latest vehicle software: 911, Taycan, Panamera, Cayenne.

You can operate Apple CarPlay with Siri voice recognition. To start Apple CarPlay, ensure: 

Siri is enabled in your iPhone settings. Your vehicle’s ignition and PCM are turned on. You aren’t on an active phone call. The parking assistant isn’t active. The native PCM voice control isn’t active. 

 Then simply: 

Press and hold the Voice Control button on the steering wheel. Speak your desired command. 

To deactivate Siri: 

When Siri is active and waiting for a command, press the Voice Control button on the steering wheel. You will hear a fading acoustic signal to confirm deactivation. 

To ensure an optimal wireless connection, make sure your iPhone has the latest version of iOS installed. 

If you encounter issues, try reconnecting Apple CarPlay via the Devices menu in the PCM or enabling flight mode on your iPhone and then reconnecting. To reconnect wirelessly, go to  Devices  in the PCM and press the Apple CarPlay icon for your iPhone. For persistent connection problems, remove the vehicle from the Bluetooth menu on your iPhone and delete the iPhone from the PCM. To delete, tap  Devices  on the home screen, select the relevant phone, swipe left, and tap the trash can icon to unpair. Reconnect your iPhone and vehicle before relaunching CarPlay. 

Only iPhone apps supported by Apple CarPlay will be displayed on the PCM. For a list of supported apps, click here.  This function is only available in countries supported by Apple. For a list of supported countries, click here.  The function can only be offered in countries supported by Apple. For information on supported countries, click here. The content and features of Apple CarPlay are provided solely by the connected iPhone.  When Apple CarPlay is active, any active Bluetooth connections (e.g., for phone calls, media playback, or messages) will be automatically disconnected and will only be available through CarPlay. Some apps require an active data connection. Additional charges may apply depending on your cell phone plan, especially when used abroad.
