What is an eSIM in a Porsche?

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM in your Porsche that connects your car to the internet without inserting a physical SIM card. The eSIM enables the use of extended entertainment services in your Porsche, including the App Centre, third-party apps and, where available, the Wi‑Fi hotspot. Data usage is based on the mobile data plan you choose with a supported network operator.

What are the benefits?

Using the eSIM hotspot offers several advantages:

Stable internet connectivity in the car without mobile phone tethering Freedom to choose your preferred mobile network operator and data plan One‑time setup, with easy management via the eSIM manager in the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and My Porsche app Ability to provide a Wi‑Fi hotspot for all devices in the car (not available in South Korea)

What are the prerequisites for activating an eSIM?

To install the eSIM, you need the following:

A Porsche IDThe My Porsche app, with your car added and you’re logged in. Bluetooth activated on your mobile phone A mobile data plan from a mobile network provider that supports eSIM, including an activation code and, if applicable, confirmation code and PIN/PUK Access to your Porsche, which needs to be in Bluetooth range of your mobile phone

How do I set up the eSIM in my car?

Step 1: Choose a mobile data plan

Select a mobile data plan from a mobile operator that supports eSIM. Complete the contract with your mobile operator. Once you receive the eSIM activation QR code, add the eSIM to your car.

Step 2: Add the eSIM via the My Porsche app in your car

Open the My Porsche app on your phone. If you have more than one car, tap your car’s name and select the correct one. On the home screen, scroll down and tap eSIM manager. Tap Add eSIM. Tap Scan QR code to scan the eSIM activation QR code from your mobile operator. If you don’t have a QR code, enter the activation code and confirmation code (if provided by your carrier) manually. If the activation QR code is saved on the same mobile phone as the My Porsche app, you can also import it from your photo gallery. Go to your car, start it and make sure your car is within Bluetooth range of your phone. In the app, tap Install now to start installing the eSIM profile. The app searches for available Bluetooth devices. Select the eSIM hotspot (ending with the VIN number of car) to pair it with your car. Confirm the pairing code in the My Porsche app and in the Porsche Communication Management (PCM). The eSIM installation starts after confirmation. You can track the progress in the My Porsche app. Installation can take around 5-10 minutes. Don’t turn off the car or close the My Porsche app during the installation. Once installation is complete, you can use the internet connection in your Porsche.

How can I switch between different installed eSIM profiles?

You can install multiple eSIM profiles and switch between them either directly in the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) or via the My Porsche app.

Porsche Communication Management (PCM)

On the home screen, tap eSIM manager. Select the eSIM profile you want to use. Select Enable eSIM. Confirm your selection.

The selected profile is shown in the ‘Active eSIM’ section. Please note that only one profile can be active at a time.

My Porsche App

Enter your car and ensure that a Bluetooth connection to the eSIM Hotspot is established. You can see this in the eSIM manager of the My Porsche app, where the top-right status icon indicates the Bluetooth connection. Open the My Porsche app on your mobile phone. If you have more than one car, tap your car’s name and select the correct one. On the home screen, scroll down and tap eSIM manager. Tap on the eSIM profile you want to use. The selected eSIM profile is marked with a tick to show that it is the active profile. Please note that only one profile can be active at a time.

How do I delete an eSIM profile?

If you change your mobile data plan or sell your car, you can delete an eSIM profile either in the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) or in the My Porsche app.

Porsche Communication Management (PCM)

On the home screen, tap eSIM manager. Tap the eSIM profile you want to delete. Tap Delete eSIM. Confirm the deletion.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a mobile phone to use the eSIM hotspot?

You only need a mobile phone for the initial setup and installation of the eSIM profile. After that, your car connects independently using the installed data plan.

Can I use any mobile network operator?

You can choose any mobile network operator that supports eSIM. Some network providers also offer multi‑SIM contracts. Extending your existing phone contract to include a multi‑SIM option may offer a pricing advantage compared to taking out a separate contract.

How many GB per month should my data plan include?

It depends on how frequently you stream audio and video. For occasional audio streaming, around 2–5 GB per month is usually sufficient. If you also stream video, plan for approximately 5 GB per film in HD.

What can I manage in Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and in the My Porsche app?

You can manage your connectivity profile both in your car via the PCM and in the My Porsche app. The PCM offers more advanced technical settings, while the app focuses on essential profile management.

Use the PCM in your car to access and adjust detailed settings of your connectivity profile:

View the profile name View the network provider View the ICCID (integrated circuit card identifier). View received SMS messages Enable, disable or delete profiles Turn data roaming on and off Manage the SIM PIN Change the network mode Adjust APN settings (access point name) Select a network operator

Use the My Porsche app for quick and convenient profile management on your mobile phone:

View the profile name View the network provider Enable, disable or delete profiles

Can I install more than one eSIM profile?

Yes, you can install multiple eSIM profiles and switch between them. However, only one profile can be active at a time.

Can I use the eSIM hotspot for Wi-Fi in the car?

Yes, the eSIM hotspot provides in‑car Wi‑Fi, allowing passengers to connect their devices.

The Wi‑Fi hotspot uses the mobile data plan linked to your car’s eSIM. Multiple devices can connect at the same time. Data usage is deducted from your selected eSIM mobile data plan, not from your mobile phone. Availability and performance depend on mobile network coverage in your area.

This makes it easy to stream content, browse the internet or work online directly from the car.

Does Apple CarPlay or Android Auto use the eSIM?

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto generally use your mobile phone’s data connection, not the car’s eSIM. However, if you use wired Apple CarPlay and your phone is connected to the eSIM hotspot, data usage may be routed via the eSIM.

What happens to the eSIM when I sell the car?

When you sell your car, delete the eSIM profile from your car. It’s also recommended to cancel your mobile data contract with your mobile network operator if you no longer need the eSIM. For instructions, see above ‘How do I delete an eSIM profile?’
