How do I use Porsche Voice Pilot?

Porsche Voice Pilot is an online enhancement to your in-car Voice Control feature, designed to improve your driving experience through voice-operated car control. It allows you to use the full range of Porsche Voice Control commands and manage most of your Connect functionalities. 

Porsche Voice Pilot offers useful features by offering deep in-car integration with extensive car functions and navigation capabilities. 

By utilising online voice recognition, the Voice Pilot delivers better results, especially for tasks such as entering a destination, media control or weather updates. Thanks to its natural language recognition technology, you can simply speak naturally, and Porsche Voice Pilot will understand and execute your voice commands.

What do I need to use Porsche Voice Pilot? 

To use Porsche Voice Pilot, please consider the following prerequisites:

Your Porsche ID account has been set up.Porsche Connect Services are activated.An internet connection is recommended (e.g., a tethering connection or an active Data Pass (not available for all models)).

‘Online voice recognition’ can be activated in the Voice Control settings to offer even more functions and ensure better recognition.

How do I configure Voice Pilot in my Porsche? 

To configure Porsche Voice Pilot and access the full range of voice control features, please follow these steps in your car's Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system. Please note that depending on your model/model year there may be slight variations in the naming of the buttons. 

Tap on Settings on the Home screen. Tap on Voice Control respectively Voice Pilot. 

An alternative way to access the voice control settings is: 

Press the Voice Control button (also called push to talk button – see image further below) on the left-hand side of your steering wheel. For the Cayenne, press and hold the button at the end of the turning signal stalk. Tap on the globe in the left corner of your PCM central display screen.  

In the voice control settings, you can customise the function to your needs. 

Activate Online voice/speech recognition which will lead to better results due to the access to an online database. This is particularly important for destination input, media and weather information. Enable the activation with ‘Hey Porsche’ by selecting ‘Hey Porsche’ as the Wake-up wordYou can also interrupt the voice control output by enabling the Interrupt voice control/Interrupting voice output setting. Additionally, by activating the Short dialogue setting, the voice pilot only gives short answers. For the 911, Panamera and Cayenne you can also activate Passenger voice control allowing the Voice Pilot to be controlled by the passenger (functionality may vary between model years within the model series). For the Macan Electric this is a default functionality not requiring manual activation.

How do I activate the Voice Pilot on my Porsche? 

For your Voice Pilot to work it’s important to note the following conditions:

To start the Voice Pilot in your Porsche, you can use one of the following methods:  

Press the Voice Control button (see image below) on the steering wheel (911, Panamera, Taycan, Macan Electric). For the Cayenne, press and hold the button at the end of the turning signal stalk.  Say the wake-up phrase ‘Hey Porsche’.  

To end the Voice Pilot session, you can use one of the following methods:  

Press the Voice Control button on the steering wheel. Simply say ‘cancel’. Click on X in the Voice Pilot overlay in PCM.

What functions can I control with Voice Pilot? 

The Porsche Voice Pilot enables you to control a wide range of functionalities using natural speech. These include navigation, phone, climate, weather information, calendar, car settings, system settings, media and radio settings. If a function is not voice-controllable, your Porsche will inform you that the command cannot be executed. 

Please note that the available voice control functions may vary depending on your model and model year and that for some voice pilot commands the online/speech recognition feature is necessary.  

For cars that have the App Centre integrated, some installed (third-party) apps can also be controlled via Porsche Voice Pilot.

Frequently asked questions

You can pause your Voice Pilot after giving a command by saying ‘Pause’. Please note, you need to activate the Interrupt Voice Control setting (see above) to enable voice interruptions. Alternatively, you can stop it by tapping the microphone in your PCM.

Your Voice Pilot switches automatically into offline mode if you haven’t activated the online voice control yet or if there’s no sufficient data connection. In this case, some functions will be limited. The offline mode will be indicated by the crossed-out grey globe.

Yes, in the settings (see above) you can choose to turn off the ‘Hey Porsche’ feature. Then the Voice Pilot is only listening when you manually activate it via the Voice Control button on the steering wheel. The setting you make will be stored in your account in the PCM.  

In guest mode, the user must give his consent by explicitly setting ‘Hey Porsche’ on each start up, the setting will not be saved for guest users.

Yes, the voice pilot knows ‘Work' and ‘Home’ which you can use for navigation, e. g., ‘I want to go home’, ‘Let’s go to work’.

Recognition only takes place within the car. A special recogniser is used that can only recognise the word sequence ‘Hey Porsche’. The other recognisers (e.g., online recognisers) are only activated when this command is spoken. In this case, the user’s comment is sent anonymously to the cloud.  If only the offline recogniser is used, no personal data is stored by Porsche Voice Pilot.
