What is the Speed Limit Warning and how can I activate and deactivate it?

The Speed Limit Warning is an intelligent speed detection system that helps you stay within the speed limit on any road. When the speed warning is active, if you exceed the speed limit, the system will inform you with an audible warning and a visual reminder on the instrument cluster.

Under European Union law, every newly registered car from 7th July 2024 must have speed limit detection systems activated whenever the car is started. However, it’s possible to activate and deactivate it, if required.

How to activate and deactivate the Speed Limit Warning

To activate/deactivate the Speed Limit Warning in your car’s Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system:

Home > Car > Assistance > Additional functions. Clicking Speed warning will activate/deactivate both visual and acoustic warnings.

For some models you can also activate/deactivate the acoustic Speed Limit Warning only:

Home > Car > Assistance > Additional functions. Clicking Acoustic speed warning will activate/deactivate just the acoustic warnings.

In addition, there are several shortcut options that allow you to quickly activate and deactivate the Porsche Speed Limit Warning without having to access the PCM menu.

You can programme your car’s quick access button – sometimes called the ‘Joker’ button. Depending on your model you may have one or several quick access buttons (for more details please refer to your owner’s manual).

Here’s how to set up the quick access button on your multifunction steering wheel to activate and deactivate the Speed Limit Warning:

Hold down the quick access button (the button with the diamond icon). The drop-down menu for assistance systems appears. If you have previously set a function, your PCM will display what it is. In this case, select ChangeSelect the speed warning from the drop-down menu.

Alternatively, you can define the quick access button as follows:

Home > Settings. Select Vehicle Settings or Car (naming may vary depending on model). Then select Quick access button > Steering wheel quick access button (naming and click path depth may vary depending on model) to set the speed limit warning for the quick access button.

Note: For the 911 GT3 from model year 2025, you can also use the Assist hard key to quickly access the driver assistance systems in the centre display where you can deactivate the speed limit warning.

For the following 911 models (from MY 2025), Taycan models (from MY 2025), Panamera models (from MY 2024) and Cayenne models (from MY2024) as well Macan Electric you can also activate and deactivate the Speed Limit Warning via the PCM MyScreen.

To do so, tap on the app icon or home icon (depending on model) on the left navigation bar of your PCM screen. This switches to MyScreen, a split screen view, where you can turn off the speed limit warning.

Another option is using the Mode-button to activate and deactivate the Speed Limit Warning:

Press the Mode-button on the cruise control lever. Select Speed Warning to turn the speed limit warning off.

How to adjust the speed tolerance

With the Speed Limit Warning, it’s possible to adjust the speed at which the system warns you via your car’s PCM. Depending on which country you live in, you can set a speed deviation tolerance of between 0 and 10 km/h (0 and 6 mph), with the speed limit warning displayed if exceeded.

Please note that, depending on the model/model year of your car, there may be slight differences in how the buttons in the steps below are described.

Home > Car > Assistance > gear icon or icon with three dots (depending on model) > Assistance system settings > Speed warning. By clicking Speed deviation in case of speed alert or Speed limit exceeded (depending on model) you can choose the maximum deviation from the speed limit. Please note, the settings made are only active for the current trip and will automatically go back to the default tolerance setting when you restart your car.
