Prerequisites for Fast Charging
Fast charging performance depends on several factors — the output of the fast-charging station, the state of charge (SoC) of the vehicle battery, and the battery temperature.
As a general rule: the fuller the battery, the slower the charging process. Charging power decreases significantly once the battery reaches around 80% SoC. This is because a vehicle battery consists of many interconnected battery cells that absorb the incoming power.
The charging process can be compared to parking: when there are many free spaces, parking is easy. But once 80% of the spaces are taken, finding an available spot takes longer.
The Macan charges with exceptional efficiency:
This is enough to gain approximately 250 km of range in just 10 minutes.
Tip: To achieve maximum charging performance and minimise charging time, start charging when the SoC drops to around 10%. The Macan charges especially quickly between 10% and 55% SoC.
Preconditioning with Charging Planner
The Charging Planner ensures optimal charging conditions by preconditioning the battery.
Important: Always use your Macan’s navigation system for route planning. Only then can the Charging Planner intelligently schedule charging stops and bring the battery to the ideal temperature in time.
Thanks to the heat pump, the battery is heated in cold conditions and cooled in hot weather — increasing both charging performance and battery longevity, even in extreme temperatures.
No worries: even without preconditioning — such as during spontaneous stops — your Macan can still charge at up to 270 kW. This is due to its particularly robust high-voltage battery, which supports a broader fast-charging window across various temperature and SoC levels compared to other electric vehicles.
Tip: The optimal temperature range for fast charging is indicated by a bracket in the battery temperature display on the instrument cluster.
