Video Tutorial | Spot On – Your Porsche Instruction Guide
Spot On is a video series that explains different features of your Porsche. In this episode, you can discover how to use Porsche Charging Profiles and Timers to charge whenever and however you like.
What are Porsche Charging Profiles?
Porsche Charging Profiles give you customised and efficient AC charging, allowing you to potentially save money and extend battery life. For example, you can create a profile that plans charging during the times when electricity prices are lower, such as during the night.
Once plugged in, with an active charging profile your Taycan will charge immediately to the minimum level that you’ve set. Afterwards, your preferred time settings will apply for the remaining charging period.
How can I manage Porsche Charging Profiles for my car?
You can set up general or location-based profiles in your Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system or My Porsche app (Apple App Store/Google Play Store). A location-based profile is useful if you regularly charge at different locations. Your Taycan will then automatically apply the correct profile based on the GPS coordinates.
Please note:
As standard, the Taycan’s minimum charging profile is set at 25%. To set a target state of charge, you need to use the timer function.
If you have compatible smart charging/energy management hardware, you can also use optimised charging. In this case, make sure to activate plug & charge: in the Charge section tap the three dots in the lower right corner > Activate plug & charge.
What is a timer and how can I use it?
Timers ensure that your desired charge level has been reached by your planned departure time. They also allow you to acclimatise your car by a specific time. The car will always prioritise the timer over the profile settings.
Profile and timer functions are only available when charging with alternating current (AC).
You can set departure timers for desired charge levels and/or car climate preparation for specific times.
Once activated, the car will ensure the desired state of charge is reached by the departure time and the charging process will stop (unless a higher minimum state of charge is specified in the active profile).
What happens when a timer and profile are both active?
If a timer is activated alongside a profile with a minimum charge requirement, the car will charge up to the minimum charge level as quickly as possible. After reaching the minimum charge, the remaining charge time will be determined based on the most cost-effective time (that you have defined in your profile) to charge as well as your departure time.
How can I override timers and profiles for immediate charging?
At some public charging stations, the charging process cannot be started if a timer or profile has been programmed.
In this case you can activate the direct charging function via the PCM central display or the centre console control panel. The high-voltage battery then charges regardless of the timer or profile function up to a maximum charge level of 100%.
