How to use Apple CarPlay in your Porsche

Apple CarPlay makes iPhone functions and apps available in your infotainment system Porsche Communication Management (PCM) of your vehicle.

What do I need to use Apple CarPlay?

To use Apple CarPlay you need:

An iPhone 7 or later with the latest iOS software Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Siri and Apple CarPlay enabled in the settings of your iPhone If connecting with a cable, use an undamaged original cable from Apple without a USB adapter to ensure trouble-free use

How can I set-up Apple CarPlay?

Depending on the country and your vehicle, there are two options to use Apple CarPlay: via USB cable or wireless connection.

Connect your iPhone to the USB interface (Type C)Confirm in the PCM that you want to start using Apple CarPlay Apple CarPlay will start and available apps are displayed on the PCM

You can check in your phone settings that Apple CarPlay is being used: Settings > General > CarPlay > Apple CarPlay is activated and available apps are displayed.

Please note that the wireless connection is only available for the following models with the latest software version:

Taycan from model year 2021 911 from model year 2019 Macan from model year 2019Cayenne from model year 2019 Panamera from model year 2020

To wirelessly connect to Apple CarPlay, you have two options to choose from:

Option 1 – via your PCM

Tap DevicesTap Connect New DevicesIn parallel, on your iPhone: Open Settings >scroll to General > open CarPlay Go back to your PCM: Select Connect Apple CarPlaySelect your vehicle on your iPhone Confirm pairing by clicking PairIf you wish, allow your contacts and favourites to be synced In the infotainment system click AcceptConfirm terms of use by tapping YesApple CarPlay will open automatically

Option 2 – via voice control

Alternatively, you can set it up via the voice control button on your steering wheel:

On your iPhone open Settings > General > CarPlayPress and hold the voice control button until your iPhone name appears in the PCM. Then tap the name Confirm pairing by clicking PairIf you wish, allow your contacts and favourites to be synced Confirm terms of use by tapping YesApple CarPlay will open automatically

The function My Porsche in Apple CarPlay allows you to control several useful functions of your vehicle without leaving Apple CarPlay in your Porsche. This includes, for example, climatisation settings, audio and sound settings like radio favourites or useful functions outside of the Apple ecosystem.

This function is available in the following models from model year 2023 with the latest vehicle software release: 911, Taycan, Panamera, Cayenne.

You can operate Apple CarPlay via Siri voice recognition. To start Apple Car Play, ensure that:

Siri is enabled in the settings of your iPhone You have switched on your vehicle’s ignition and PCM You aren’t in an active phone call The parking assistant isn’t active PCM voice control isn’t active

Then simply:

Press and hold the Voice Control button on the steering wheel Speak your desired voice command

To deactivate Siri:

Siri is active and waiting for a voice command To end Siri, press the Voice Control button on the steering wheel. After hearing the fading acoustic signal, Siri is successfully deactivated

For an optimal Apple CarPlay wireless connection, always ensure your iPhone has the latest version of iOS.

If you encounter connection issues, you can resolve them by reconnecting Apple CarPlay wireless in PCM Device or by enabling flight mode on your iPhone and then reconnecting it. To reconnect Apple CarPlay wireless in the PCM, go to Devices and press the Apple CarPlay icon for the iPhone you want to reconnect. If you experience persistent connection problems, remove the vehicle from the Bluetooth menu on your iPhone and delete the iPhone from the PCM. To delete your phone from the PCM, tap Devices on the Home screen, select the relevant phone and swipe to left. Then a rubbish bin icon appears and your phone will be unpaired. Reconnect your iPhone and the vehicle.

Only iPhone apps that are supported by Apple CarPlay are displayed. For information on supported apps click here. The function can only be offered in countries supported by Apple. For information on supported countries click here. The displayed content and features of Apple CarPlay are provided solely by the connected iPhone. When Apple CarPlay is used, any active Bluetooth connection (e.g. for telephony, media playback or news) is automatically disconnected. In this case, phone calls can only be made via the connected Apple CarPlay smartphone. Some apps require an active data connection. You may incur additional charges, depending on your mobile phone tariff, particularly if using abroad. The use of a flat-rate data plan is recommended.
