How can I use Android Auto in a Porsche?

With Android Auto, some of the functions and apps of an Android smartphone are made available in your Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system.

What do I need to do to use Android Auto with my Porsche?

To use Android Auto with your Porsche, you need:

The latest Android version (minimum Android 8) The latest version of Android Auto installed on your phone. From Android 10 onwards, Android Auto is already integrated A mobile data connection enabled on your phone.  Depending on your mobile plan, additional charges may apply (especially if used abroad). It’s recommended you use a data plan with flat-rate pricing Google Assistant and Android Auto enabled in the settings We recommend using an undamaged, original manufacturer phone cable without a USB adapter For further information, please check the current requirements on the Android Auto website

Android Auto is only available in countries supported by Google and with apps that are supported by Android Auto. For more details visit the Google Play store. 

The availability of Android Auto and its features also vary depending on model and model year, and may not be available in your vehicle.

How can I set up Android Auto in a Porsche?

You can set-up Android Auto either wirelessly or wired using a USB cable.

Connect your phone to the USB port (Type C) Confirm the notification on your Porsche Communication Management (PCM) that you want to start using Android Auto  Android Auto will now launch and available apps will be displayed on the PCM

To enable a wireless connection, please make sure you have: 

Activated Wireless Android Auto on your phone Activated the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi functions on your phone Activated the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi functions of your vehicle 

In your vehicle’s Porsche Communication Management (PCM):

Tap the Devices tile.Tap Connect new devices.Tap Connect Android Auto to add your phone. Alternatively, you can also use the Android Auto logo in the toolbar next to the ‘Connect new devices’ field as a shortcut. Your vehicle will start searching for devices. Your phone will appear on the screen as soon as your Porsche finds it. Tap on your phone name and confirm the Bluetooth code for the pairing request by clicking ‘Pair’ on your phone. If you wish, allow your Porsche to access your messages.Agree to start Android Auto in your PCM.

Once your phone has been connected, Android Auto will automatically start when you enter the vehicle (Bluetooth and Wi-Fi must be enabled).  

To exit wireless Android Auto: 

On your vehicle’s PCM press Home > Devices > Tap the Android Auto icon of the connected smartphone. 

Wireless Android Auto will now be terminated.

What should I consider when using Android Auto?

Navigation applications such as Google Maps via Android Auto don’t work in parallel with PCM navigation When using Android Auto, active Bluetooth connections (e.g. for telephony, media playback or messaging) are automatically disconnected If Android Auto is active, you can’t use or connect another phone. To connect another phone, you must first disconnect the Android Auto connection within the PCM Device Manager 

How can I operate Android Auto using Google Assistant Voice Control?

To start Google Assistant, ensure that: 

Google Assistant is enabled in the settings of your phone You have switched on your vehicle’s ignition and PCM   You aren’t in an active phone call The parking assistant isn’t active PCM Voice control isn’t active

You can then start Google Assist by using one of the following methods:

Press and hold the Voice Control button (see image below) on the steering wheel (911, Panamera, Taycan, Macan Electric), press and hold the button at the end of the turning signal stalk (Cayenne) Say the wake-up phrase ‘Hey Google’. Alternatively, tap the Google Assistant icon on the Android Auto My Screen.

To end Google Assistant: 

Google Assistant is active and waiting for a voice command Press the Voice Control button on the steering wheel > A fading acoustic signal sounds
